The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives is an international expert scientific committee that is administered jointly by the FAO and the WHO. JECFA establishes specifications for the identity and purity of food additives in order to promote good manufacturing practice and ensure the quality of additives placed on the market. Its risk assessment also covers flavouring agents, residues of veterinary drugs in animal products, contaminants and natural toxins.
